Coonamble Shire Council

Coonamble Shire is a local government area in the Orana region of north-central New South Wales, bounded on one side by the Warrumbungle National Park, and on the other by the Western Plains and Macquarie Marshes, and includes the towns of Coonamble, Gulargambone and Quambone. It is home to a population of 4030 people.

The town of Coonamble is located at the confluence of the Castlereagh River (catchment area 8,400 km2 at the confluence) and Warrena Creek (catchment area 1,240 km2 creek outlet), approximately 165 km north of Dubbo in north-central NSW.

The village of Gulargambone (population approximately 367 according to 2011 census) is situated on the Castlereagh Highway approximately 50km north of Gilgandra and 45km south of Coonamble in the central west of NSW. The village is located in the Castlereagh River Catchment.

Quambone (population 247 and 50 dwellings) is located approximately 55 km west of Coonamble, in the central west of NSW. The Village of Quambone, declared on 28 July 1894, was developed on Quambone Station. Quambone is the gateway to the Macquarie Marshes.
