Lismore Flood Risk Management Plan 2024 - Report

This updated Flood Risk Management Plan is a comprehensive strategy to address and manage flood risks in the Lismore Township. It builds upon previous studies, particularly the 2021 Floodplain Risk Management Study (FRMS), and integrates lessons from the catastrophic 2022 flood events.

The FRMS study area comprises the urban areas of North Lismore, South Lismore, Central Lismore, and East Lismore.

The objective of the Lismore Flood Risk Management Plan (FRMP) is to provide a short- to medium-term strategy for managing flood risk in the Lismore Township. Specifically, the plan aims to:

Establish a comprehensive program of works and measures to progressively reduce the social, environmental, and economic impacts of flooding, supported by a clear implementation and funding framework.

Recommend updates to Council policies and planning instruments to ensure that future development on flood-affected land is compatible with identified flood hazards and risks.

Review and improve existing flood management practices, including the operation of key hydraulic controls and natural floodplain features, to enhance flood mitigation outcomes.

Ensure alignment with local emergency management planning, supporting effective flood response and evacuation strategies.

Secure community support and engagement, ensuring that the FRMP reflects local values, experiences, and priorities in flood risk management.
