This polygon boundary layer contains 15 Kangaroo Management Zones relating to the commercial kangaroo harvest management program in the western part of the State. A "Non Commercial Zone" extends across the Eastern Seaboard.
The commercial harvest of kangaroos in New South Wales is restricted to distinct kangaroo management zones. Kangaroo management zones are used to allocate and issue harvesting quotas. These quotas limit the number of kangaroos of each species that may be harmed commercially in any kangaroo management zone. Annual harvest quotas for each management zones are established using population estimates calculated from annual population monitoring and reporting.
The attribute table contains both the full area hectares and square kilometres as well as the values of those two fields with NPWS Estate subtracted ie. where there is no harvest.
NB. In 2020 the zone boundaries were modified in the southern part of the State:
• the former single Griffith zone was divided into Griffith North and Griffith South and the southern Griffith Zone was extended east
• the South East Tablelands zone was extended slightly east into the non commercial zone.
The 2020 version remains the current one.
