These data were collected as part of the River Red Gum Ecological Thinning Trial.
Data were collected for four fauna components, as described below:
Bat Activity: Bat activity was surveyed within each 9 ha plot using ultrasonic recordings of bat calls over three consecutive nights, around the time of a new moon, in summer. Surveys were undertaken annually over seven years. Recordings were processed through Anascheme to identify bat activity by species.
Bird Abundance: Birds were surveyed in a 2 ha subplot within each 9 ha plot, six times over seven years. In each survey year, visual and auditory observations were recorded by an experienced observer during four separate 20 minute periods.
Fox Scats: Fox scat data were collected in three 20 m x 20 m subplots within each 9 ha plot, six times over seven years. The number of fox scats was counted, with any uncertain specimens subsequently confirmed by a scat analysis expert.
Glider Feed Trees: Glider feed trees were surveyed visually by traversing each 9 ha plot and recording the number of trees with distinctive glider feeding notches. Data were collected twice over seven years.
Further information is provided in the reference guide for each dataset.
