The mapped boundaries of Private Water Corporations within the State of NSW and the parcels within them are described. Private Water Corporations are former private irrigation districts and private drainage boards and unions.
In the first half of 2024 the boundaries of the Private Water Corporations were mapped by NSW Public Works within a single spatial (GIS) dataset using a reference NSW cadastre from February 2024 and a datum of GDA2020. The Private Water Corporations boundaries were mapped using the following methods in descending order:
- Georeferencing images of gazetted maps to the NSW Cadastre and matching boundaries.
- Following gazetted boundary descriptions. This would typically require georeferencing an image of a Parish Plan that was published at a similar date to the gazettal notice to provide context to the descriptions. NSW Spatial Services Aerial Imagery was traced when descriptions or maps referred to physical boundaries like creeks, rivers, and water channels.
- Using a gazetted schedule of parcels.
- Using Parish Plans when Private Water Corporations were mapped on them.
The list of Private Water Corporations and the references to gazettal notices was provided by the Water Group, Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, NSW Government.
