The Data.NSW team at the Data Analytics Centre (DAC) have now finalised the refresh of the NSW Government’s data portal – Data.NSW. The vision for Data.NSW is to be the main channel for accessing NSW Government open data and data-related guidance for all users, including government workers, members of the public and private business. To achieve this vision, the DAC has redesigned the portal, focusing on the home page, information architecture and the overall look and feel for a better user experience.
Data.NSW is a whole-of-government data portal that aims to improve the use, sharing, management and open release of data by NSW Government agencies for the benefit of all NSW. However, in order to do this, we need to ensure that the information on our website is accessible and current, and that users can navigate it easily. As such, this project focused heavily on elements of human centred design to ensure that any changes made were beneficial to our users.
Participants from a range of backgrounds, both government and non-government, assisted in workshops and discussions in order to assess what they wanted to see in the new site. These elements allowed the team to ensure that users are provided with the best possible experience and can complete their goals on the site. All workshops were undertaken online in order to comply with social distancing measures and the entire project was completed using an agile methodology of continuous improvement and feedback.
