River Red Gum Litter and Woody Debris Data

These data were collected as part of the River Red Gum Ecological Thinning Trial.

Litter depth, litter cover and woody debris were recorded. The following methods were employed:

Litter Cover and Litter Depth: Litter cover and litter depth data were collected within three 20 m x 20 m subplots within each 9 ha plot. Litter was defined as any disconnected dead plant material from 1-99 mm in diameter. Average litter depth within each subplot was estimated by measuring litter depth at 10 locations using a metal ruler and cardboard disk. Litter cover was visually estimated as percentage within each subplot. Litter data was collected six times across seven years.

Coarse Woody Debris: Coarse woody debris (CWD) data was collected within two 0.1 ha subplots within each plot. CWD was defined as dead plant material (log) with a diameter of 100 mm or more and at least 0.5 m in length. The midpoint diameter and length of each log was recorded. CWD was measured three times across seven years.

Further information is provided in the reference guide for each dataset.

Data for coarse woody debris is not publicly available. Contact data.broker@environment.nsw.gov.au for more information.
