NPWS WildCount Long-term Fauna Monitoring Species Data 2012-2021

The aim of the Wildcount program is to monitor fauna in eastern New South Wales within NPWS estate and identify changes in species populations through Occupancy Modelling. Surveys commenced in 2012 and have been conducted every year since then. The first 10 years of field survey ends in 2021 and the program will be reviewed. They are conducted during Autumn. There are 200 sites with the average number of sites surveyed each year being 198. Within each site four Reconyx PC800 cameras were deployed and placed at the corners of a 500 x 500 metre grid. Lures consisting of peanut butter and oats are placed at each camera. Each site is surveyed for a minimum of 14 consecutive days. Species are recorded as either present or absent and are assigned a level of confidence (definite, probable, possible) as to their species identification.
