We have released a new GDA2020 version of this dataset\u00a0which replaces the current GDA94 version. This updated service aligns our spatial data with the national standard, improving accuracy, consistency, and compatibility with modern positioning technologies.


The previous service will remain available during the transition period as GDA94 services are retired, but users are encouraged to move to the new GDA2020 service as soon as practical.

The Features of Interest\u00a0Category\u00a0consists of features whose primary characteristic are of a cultural (man-made) origin, but generally not including transportation related features.\u00a0\u00a0

These features do not fit within one of the ten foundation spatial data themes and are therefore classified as a category. They have historically been captured by Spatial Services as part of the NSW digital topographic mapping program and therefore warrant inclusion.\u00a0\u00a0

The Features of Interest theme also defines\u00a0the location of facilities such as Police Stations, Ambulance Stations and Hospitals which is crucial information for the citizens of NSW.\u00a0

The Features of Interest\u202fCategory\u202fis primarily used for planning, developmental activities, navigation and resource monitoring by emergency services, the Defence Forces, environmental resource managers and engineers. This information is also commonly used by bushwalkers,\u202fcanoeists,\u00a0anglers\u202fand fossickers to establish a detailed picture of the local environment.\u00a0

The clear definition of these features is vital for emergency services in response situations.\u00a0\u00a0Data included in the Features of Interest Category:

AccuracyThe dataset maintains a positional relationship to, and alignment with, a range of themes from the NSW FSDF including transport, imagery, positioning, water and land cover. This dataset was captured by digitising the best available cadastral mapping at a variety of scales and accuracies, ranging from 1:500 to 1:250 000 according to the National Mapping Council of Australia, Standards of Map Accuracy (1975). Therefore, the position of the feature instance will be within 0.5mm at map scale for 90% of the well-defined points. That is, 1:500 = 0.25m, 1:2000 = 1m, 1:4000 = 2m, 1:25000 = 12.5m, 1:50000 = 25m and 1:100000 = 50m.\u00a0A program to upgrade the spatial location and accuracy of data is ongoing.
