This historical dataset is out of date and no longer updated.  The data is spatially available as a layer on the [Protected Matters Search Tool](https://pmst.awe.gov.au/#/map?lng=131.52832031250003&lat=-28.6905876542507&zoom=5&baseLayers=Imagery,ImageryLabels) on the DCCEEW website. \r\n\r\nIt is a polygon coverage representing the wetlands cited in the \"A Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia\" Third Edition (EA, 2001), plus various additions for wetlands listed after 2001.\r\n\r\nThis coverage is a compilation of various data sources and has been collected using a variety of methods. This dataset was used as an indicative guide only to wetland boundaries and locations. The data has been collated by the Australian Government from various datasets including those supplied by the relevant State agencies.\r\n\r\nState agency contributors include the Queensland Environmental Protection Authority, NSW Department of Environment and Conservation and the Victorian Department of Sustainability and Environment.\r\n\r\nFor the identification of wetland boundaries or locations in regard to the compliance of activities with relevant State legislation, the relevant State authority should be contacted to obtain the most recent and accurate wetland boundary information available.\r\n\r\nThe criteria for the definition of a wetland used in this dataset is that adopted by the Ramsar Convention, namely: \"areas of marsh, fen, peatland or water, whether natural or artificial, permanent or temporary, with water that is static or flowing, fresh, brackish or salt, including areas of marine water the depth of which at low tide does not exceed six meters.\"\r\n\r\n", "num_resources": 4, "num_tags": 6, "organization": {"id": "71f97035-d633-4b15-a6a6-2052308b4494", "name": "department-of-climate-change-energy-the-environment-and-water", "title": "Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water", "type": "organization", "description": "The department protects Australia\u2019s natural environment and heritage sites, helps Australia respond to climate change and carefully manages our water and energy resources.
