Greater Sydney Regional Housing Activity
Description: This dataset contains • the latest available numbers of monthly dwelling approvals by District and Local Government Area (LGA) since July 1991, • the latest available numbers of quarterly net dwelling completions by District and LGA since July 2012 and net completions for Greater Newcastle by financial year from 2013-14, • the number of net dwelling completions for the Greater Sydney Region by financial year since 1949-50, and • the number of gross dwelling completions for New South Wales by quarter since September 1984.
The Department collects data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Sydney Water Corporation, Hunter Water Corporation, as well as the Central Coast and Shoalhaven Councils. The Department then prepares, analyses and reports on these data as part of its commitment to monitor residential dwelling approvals and completions. These data may be revised retrospectively.
These data are for the Greater Sydney, Central Coast, and Illawarra-Shoalhaven Regions and the Greater Newcastle area. These comprise the LGAs of Bayside, Blacktown, Blue Mountains, Burwood, Camden, Campbelltown, Canada Bay, Canterbury-Bankstown, Central Coast, Cessnock, Cumberland, Fairfield, Georges River, Hawkesbury, Hornsby, Hunters Hill, Inner West, Kiama, Ku-ring-gai, Lake Macquarie, Lane Cove, Liverpool, Maitland, Mosman, Newcastle, North Sydney, Northern Beaches, Parramatta, Penrith, Port Stephens, Randwick, Ryde, Shellharbour, Shoalhaven, Strathfield, Sutherland Shire, Sydney, The Hills Shire, Waverley, Willoughby, Wollondilly, Wollongong and Woollahra. On 21 September 2017, the Greater Sydney Region Districts were revised to form Central City, Eastern City, North, South and Western City (Environmental Planning and Assessment Order 2017). Previously the Greater Sydney Region Districts included Central, Central West, North, South, South West and West.
