We have released a new GDA2020 version of our Foundational Spatial Data Framework (FSDF) datasets which replaces the current GDA94 version. This updated service aligns our spatial data with the national standard, improving accuracy, consistency, and compatibility with modern positioning technologies.

The previous service will remain available during the transition period as GDA94 services are retired, but users are encouraged to move to the new GDA2020 service as soon as practical.

Description	A polygon feature class representing the approximate extent (bounds) of formally named water features that have relatively indistinct named extent. Features within Fuzzy Extent Water Area include: Bay Like - a named bay-like feature which includes GNB designations: Bays, Bights, Coves, Entrances, Gulfs, Harbours, Inlets, Ports and River Mouths. River Like Area - a named river-like feature of indefinite name extent, which includes GNB designations: Anabranch, Arm, Bend, Canal, Channel, Cowal, Passage, Reach, River Bend, River Feature, and Strait that have not been represented by another hydrographic feature class. Sea Like - a named sea-like waterbody, which includes GNB designations: Sea and Ocean. Water security is one of Australia’s major challenges. Key users of the hydrology data are NSW State and Local Government agencies as well as Federal Government agencies. These bodies use this data to better manage State and Local Government assets. This hydrology data provides the NSW component of the Australian Hydrological Geospatial Fabric which is a critical input to the Australian Water Resources Information System. More widespread use of the hydrology data is also found in emergency management response and recovery efforts, hazard mitigation or disaster risk reduction, climate change, natural resource assessment, environmental planning and monitoring, insurance, mining and agriculture.

Accuracy	This dataset was captured by utilising the best available source at a variety of scales and accuracies, ranging from 1:500 to 1:250 000 according to the National Mapping Council of Australia, Standards of Map Accuracy (1975). Therefore, the position of the feature instance will be within 0.5mm at map scale for 90% of the well-defined points. That is, 1:500 = 0.25m, 1:2000 = 1m, 1:4000 = 2m, 1:25000 = 12.5m, 1:50000 = 25m and 1:100000 = 50m. A program to upgrade the spatial location and accuracy of data is ongoing.
