NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, Environment and Water (DCCEEW Water) has adopted the Guidelines for Identifying High Ecological Value Aquatic Ecosystems (HEVAE) framework developed by the Australian Commonwealth Government. In the current assessment for NSW, the HEVAE consists of four key criteria which include diversity, distinctiveness, naturalness and vital habitat. Therefore, the HEVAE instream value layer is a combination of four individual criterion layers. The final or overall HEVAE score is determined for each River Style\u00ae reach. This is calculated by adding together the final scores for each criterion (Naturalness, Diversity, Distinctiveness and Vital Habitat). This score is then standardised by dividing by the maximum combined HEVAE score for a whole catchment's river reaches to provide an even spread of score outcomes between 0 (lowest) and 1 (highest). The distinctiveness value criteria of HEVAE were updated in 2018 by including the predicted threatened fish species distribution data (MaxEnt modelled data) provided by DPI Fisheries. The final or overall HEVAE scores where then recalculated after this process.

This dataset contains point features that are a depiction of the monitoring locations for the NSW State Water Quality Assessment and Monitoring Program (SWAMP).
SWAMP is a state-wide program to collect, analyse and report water quality in NSW rivers. It has operated since 2007 and collects data from ~140 sites across 13 different regions on a monthly basis.

All water quality data are collected and archived by Water NSW. All data are generated according to documented procedures for collecting samples, providing quality control samples and the preservation and transport of samples as recommended in Australia Standard AS/NZS 5667.1.1998 water quality sampling. All procedures are based on, and comply with, recognised departmental and external standards to ensure that the project delivers data of the highest possible standard. Level of data audit is a review of summary results, by comparing the data to previous minimum and maximum data, considering what is reasonable for that parameter in that general location, and comparing lab and field data for the same parameter from the same sampling date to see if variance is reasonable. Full details describing location, date and other attributes of water samples are recorded and all instruments are regularly serviced and calibrated. All laboratories analysis is undertaken at a NATA accredited laboratory. Where a laboratory result is less than the detectable limit for a parameter, the detection limit has been used for analysis.

The point dataset was created on 15/12/2025 from site information from Water NSW Water Quality database.\u00a0The 75th\u00a0percentiles for the measured parameters are the River Condition Index target values for the unique water quality zone that each site is located in. The targets were calculated using the 2007 to 2020 data.

| Description | Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) Statistical Geographical Standard Boundaries Suburb divides an area of interest throughout the state of NSW on which statistics are collected for purposes under the Census and Statistics Act 1905 (Cth). The Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) brings together in one framework all of the regions which the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and many other organisations use to collect, release and analyse geographically classified statistics. The ASGS ensures that these statistics are comparable and geospatially integrated and provides users with a coherent set of standard regions so that they can access, visualise, analyse and understand statistics. The 2016 ASGS will be used for the 2016 Census of Population and Housing and progressively introduced into other ABS data collections. The ABS encourages the use of the ASGS by other organisations to improve the comparability and usefulness of statistics generally, and in analysis and visualisation of statistical and other data. The ABS Structures are a hierarchy of regions developed for the release of ABS statistical information. The main components are as follows:
The ABS maintains the Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) and the Australian Standard Geographical Classification (ASGC) for pre-2011 census information. In addition to the NSW Administrative Boundaries Theme Australian Bureau of Statistics also provides this data via a web service direct from ABS. | Accuracy | The dataset maintains a positional relationship to, and alignment with, the Lot and Property digital datasets. This dataset was captured by digitising the best available cadastral mapping at a variety of scales and accuracies, ranging from 1:500 to 1:250 000 according to the National Mapping Council of Australia, Standards of Map Accuracy (1975). Therefore, the position of the feature instance will be within 0.5mm at map scale for 90% of the well-defined points. That is, 1:500 = 0.25m, 1:2000 = 1m, 1:4000 = 2m, 1:25000 = 12.5m, 1:50000 = 25m and 1:100000 = 50m. A program to upgrade the spatial location and accuracy of data is ongoing.\u00a0 |
